Friday, 11/16, 5-7pm: SALON - Writer Onesimo Almeida reads from his work. Born in the Azores, Almeida is a long-time Providence resident and Professor of Portuguese Studies at Brown. He writes essays, critical papers, and fiction on Portuguese and Azorean history as well as the Portuguese diaspora in the U.S. An academic and creative writer, he reads and lectures in both the U.S. and Portugal, continuously crossing what he calls “the Atlantic River,” yet is firmly rooted in the Portuguese and Azorean migrant community in New England. Join him for a conversation about the fluidity of the notions of home, migration, and identity. For Athenaeum members and their guests. (Sponsor: Antiques & Interiors, antiquesandinteriors.biz)
